Approaching downtown Watkinsville last Friday, a large tent in front of the historic Eagle Tavern dominated the view. Rows of people seated in chairs faced the main stage, enjoying music and the mid-morning breeze.

Oconee Countians dressed in red, white and blue carried miniature flags, munched on cotton candy and watermelon, tapped their feet to music from local bands and listened to storytelling under cover from the sun’s rays. Leashed dogs walked by panting, and kids with painted faces ran across the lawn.
